Product Development Manager will help support the development of new products, platforms and packaging for the business unit. Will cultivate consumer insights, market data and trends that help their business unit identify opportunities to grow Private Brands. A key member of their business unit, this person will work within their team to understand customer needs, create innovative products and lead a significant portion of the development process.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Private Brand Team\’s vision and strategy into a pipeline of innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Leverage market data, consumer insights and trends that identified ideas and platforms that resonate with 7-Eleven\’s consumer base.
  • Support the product development process including opportunity identification, consumer testing, establishment of success criteria, packaging development and post-launch performance verification.
  • Partner with the Sr. Category Manager to develop a strategy that supports their business unit, serving as the key executional contact point with the supplier partner and internal stakeholders to gain alignment and bring high-impact platforms to market.
  • Work collaboratively with the Category Team and Category Support Team to provide all critical information to facilitate product execution instore.
  • Provide input regarding the management of existing private brands assortments, including opportunities for expansion, promotion and rationalization of items.
  • Assist in the development of the Associate Product Development Manager and ensure their activities align with the priorities of the business unit.
  • Lead the execution of product sampling/tasting panels with potential consumers as well as in-house product reviews.
  • Create, analyze and present performance metrics to help make business decisions about future product development strategy.
  • Partner with user experience and customer research teams to drive insights into customer segments and shopping behaviors.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors/4 Yr Degree
  • Experience: 5 years, 3 years in new product development or related experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience: Retail and/or Manufacturing experience are strongly preferred. Skilled using marketing metrics, consumer insights and data to drive business decisions.
  • Proven problem-solver.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with attention to detail.
  • Time-management skills; the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to manage multiple, competing priorities.

The job

  • Overall you coordinate and guarantee the implementation of all starting and running projects within the department, in such a way that all set project objectives are achieved and can be successfully completed. To do this, you keep an overview of the layout of the various projects, manage and control the planning, monitor deadlines, agreements, actions and make timely adjustments where necessary.
  • In addition, you monitor the quality of all starting projects, check whether all necessary (administrative) information is present and you link quickly and effectively with relevant parties such as our supplier and buyers.
  • You are the point of contact for other relevant departments within Lidl Nederland, you inform them about the progress and possible risks of the projects and you ensure that all communication runs smoothly and on time.
  • In addition to broad monitoring of the packaging projects, you also provide various reports in Excel, you manage the invoice flows and you prepare cost forecasts.
  • For the department manager you are indispensable when it comes to providing insight into all planning information, from cost estimates to productivity plans.

Summary of Position
This role will be designing private brands, CPG and product art. (approx. 50%), review and proofing (approx. 30%) and collaboration with business teams (approx. 20%). In-House Designer is responsible for maintaining quality, accuracy, and consistency of all private brands and packaging across multiple product categories. Creates and oversees packaging and product designs from concept to finished product. Works directly with merchandising, imports, and testing under the supervision of the Private Brand and Creative Design Manager.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates the appearance of packaging, including structure, graphics, photography/illustration, and typography to meet packaging objectives

  • Creative design and production work for all private brand packaging
  • Conceptualize, create and execute trend-right prints and repeat patterns, using corporate art, creating a cohesive assortment for apparel and home products
  • Collaborates with Creative Design Manager and merchants developing product art for seasonal selections
  • Conducts research of marketplace competitors as needed to ensure packaging and product artwork is on-trend
  • Communicates with merchants, imports, testing, and vendors to ensure packaging is accurate, market-driven, and meets all legal requirements
  • Provides clear and concise direction to vendors to assist them in applying in-house artwork to packaging and products
  • Reviews digital and print proofs for accuracy and quality
  • Ensures all packaging and product deadlines are met through use of the production schedule
  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of packaging and design trends, procedures and process updates

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in Graphic Design or equivalent work experience
  • Comfortable working in an Apple environment
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop
  • Strong sense of design, color, trends and an understanding of the product development process
  • Highly creative, with a good sense brand and logo development, color, typography, and layout
  • Effective written, verbal communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy when proofing packaging art layouts
  • Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects at once, and work quickly to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
