Aldi Private Brand Wins 2014 Product of the Year USA Award

\"SimplyRecognized around the nation for simplifying the shopping experience by providing consumers with peer-tested recommendations, Product of the Year (www.productoftheyearusa.com) announced last week its highly anticipated roster of 2014 winners. Product of the Year USA honored this year\’s most innovative consumer products at its 6th annual awards ceremony in New York City on Tuesday, February 11th at a \"Productcelebratory dinner at Manhattan\’s Edison Ballroom. Sherri Shepherd, special guest host and Daytime Emmy Award winner of ABC\’s \”The View,\” served as Master of Ceremonies alongside top improv comedians Kate James and Greg Mills. \"AldiIn the summer of last year Batavia, Illinois based discount grocer ALDI has introduced a test of a new Private Brand SimplyNature, which featured natural or organic products. In a press release dated January 2, 2014 the retailer announced the nationwide launch of the new brand and its permanent addition to the Aldi Private Brand portfolio. The brand includes design variations for Natural, Organic and Kids.

The use of the word “SIMPLE” in Private Brand is a welcome change from the era of Great/Guaranteed/Essential/Value brands however retailers should not copy this trend and should instead build unique and differentiated brands that deliver on their unique strategies.

ALDI Launches Private Brand Single Serve Coffee Cups

Small format, discount grocer ALDI has introduced a new, private brand line of single serve coffee cups in the Beaumont Coffee brand. The Beaumont single serve coffee cups will be available in all ALDI store locations beginning this fall in a variety of flavors like Breakfast Blend, Dark Roast, Hazelnut, French Vanilla and Fair Trade Columbian. At $5.79 for a 12-count box, coffee at home just got more affordable. The coffee cups work with Keurig Coffee Makers, except Vue.
