THE ROLE
Thrive Market is one of the fastest-growing companies in Los Angeles and we’re looking for a Private Label Non-Food Product Innovator (aka Buyer) to support our seasoned private label team. We need a driven, self-motivated individual with strong organization + negotiation skills to support our dynamic e-commerce business. Our ideal candidate will have deep experience in sourcing and developing products along with a passion for quality + sustainability across the health, beauty, household cleaning + home goods categories.

We are looking for a strong communicator that can effectively partner with our private label team as well as our branded merchandise buyers and interdepartmental teams as well. We will be developing hundreds of Thrive Market products in the coming months, so we are looking for someone with drive who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify, Develop and Direct merchandise private label opportunities in conjunction with VP, Brand Manager + Branded Merchandise Buyers.
  • Identify and provide sourcing assistance for current and potential new private label items in Non-Food Categories.
  • Establish, oversee and direct product specifications, quality, and inspection protocol to Thrive Market standards.
  • Perform regular quarterly reviews of current merchandise mix sales and suggested program enhancements.
  • Create and manage a Private Label item merchandise development target list and timelines with on-time performance.
  • Coordinate and create buying volume purchasing leverage synergies between Thrive Market and Suppliers.
  • Coordinate with internal Demand Planning and Suppliers expected purchasing forecasts and packing needs.
  • Review and report required actions on actual v. forecasted purchases.
  • Conduct on-site review of supplier facilities and abilities with support of VP + other personnel where applicable.
  • Coordinate w/ Compliance and Legal to ensure packaging meets all requirements for legal import and/or sale including DSHEA and other regulatory parameters

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate and interact with Buying, Logistics, Design Development, Product Registration, Legal Compliance and Vendors in a professional, positive and proactive manner
  • Ability to negotiate effectively
  • Minimum 5 years Buying Experience in Non-Food Categories (HABA, Household Cleaning, Home goods, etc.)
  • Highly organized and able to successfully manage and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner
  • Highly productive and able to excel in a fast-paced, high growth environment
  • Able to travel domestically + internationally
  • Enjoy working with others in a team environment
  • Motivated to learn items, new product categories and international logistics where applicable

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).
