Education
Job Description: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or similar field of study preferred

Work Experiences

  • 5+ years of experience as a graphic designer with branding, logo design, website or advertising experience preferred
  • Portfolio submitted with the application is required in order to be considered for this position
  • Package design experience preferred
  • Proficient in applicable design tools: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign
  • Broad understanding of composition, color theory, imagery, typography, space, scale and grid systems in print design
  • Demonstrated excellence in design, creative thought, problem-solving, and the creative ability to imagine and demonstrate ideas
  • Understanding of printing processes and materials
  • Experience with 3D rendering and illustration a plus

Skills

  • Detail orientated, interpersonal, time management, organization and prioritization skills
  • Experience with software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PLM software
  • Technical aptitude with the ability to prepare, package, and pre-flight files for production purposes
  • Preparing accurate and timely artwork for production and sample development
  • Solid planning and organizational skills, including a pro-active ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers individually and collectively; providing and accepting constructive criticism in order to obtain more effective design solutions
  • Self-motivated and able to work multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while adhering to strict deadlines
  • Effective listening, speaking and writing skills
  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties

Responsibilities

  • Develop new, innovative and appealing designs and redesign for packaging and point of purchase displays from concept to final packaging in the store for Academy’s extensive portfolio of private brands
  • Direct photography and illustrations to translate and communicate desired concepts and visions to final design
  • Accurately proof production artwork from copy to printing spec
  • Send production artwork to domestic and overseas vendors
  • Interact with business partners to ensure designs meet objectives and deadlines
  • Communicate with overseas and domestic manufacturers to provide detailed information for production implementation
  • Analyze designs to help enhance products, satisfy consumer needs, improve margins, and reduce costs and shrink
  • Graphic design support for product development
  • Follow and maintain existing private label packaging brand and style guidelines and contribute to the creation of new designs
  • Partner with members of the product development team, incorporate feedback for designs from various sources and produce a cohesive look for all projects
  • Successfully manage all aspects of a project from start to finish
  • Keep management informed of workload and potential issues
  • Mentor and support junior designers
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Academy policies, procedures and safety rules
  • Duties may change; team member may be required to perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements & Attendance

  • Regular attendance required
  • Ability to work flexible hours such as evening, weekends, and holidays as necessary
  • Occasional domestic travel for seminars and trade shows required
