Sam’s Club Shares Sustainability Efforts on Items for its Tiniest Members

I’ve had the pleasure of being responsible for our baby items at Sam’s Club for the past 18 months, and we’ve been hard at work developing a best in class product in our Member’s Mark Comfort Care diapers. I’m extremely proud of the value and quality of the product, including the Ultra-Soft Liner to help protect babies’ skin and our NEW Fitgrip technology that helps prevent sagging for our size 3-6 diapers. I’m even more proud of the efforts we’ve taken in producing these items to allow babies to grow up in a more sustainable environment.

I’m thrilled to share some sustainability facts and stats surrounding our Member’s Mark diapers, and as you can imagine these changes don’t happen overnight. At Sam’s Club we’re constantly looking to improve processes and create products our member’s trust and love. That’s why in the making of our Member’s Mark diapers we only work with companies using certified sustainable forests and pulp producers. That means that the suppliers are practicing sustainable forestry in an environmentally-friendly, socially responsible and economically viable manner. Also, our sustainable pulp producers create materials from renewable raw wood material.

We’ve also worked with our suppliers to implement several energy reduction projects like converting lights to more efficient LEDs, installing new, more efficient controllers and developing several methods of delivering compressed air in a more efficient manner.

  • Due to all of these efforts we’ve been able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 10,840 metric tons annually. This is equivalent to each of the following metrics:
  • Annual greenhouse gas emissions from more than 2,300 passenger vehicles,
  • Or the same amount of carbon sequestered annually by 88.4 acres of forest,
  • Or even compare it to greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling more than 3,700 tons of waste.

While we’re not checking “sustainability” off of our list of to dos, this is one opportunity we’re proud of pursuing with our suppliers. We will continue to create new products and look for ways to better the sustainability of our current products to make more of an impact on our member’s lives and less on the environment around us.
