Currently, Meijer is looking for a Product Development Director.  The individual selected for this position will be responsible for combining brand management with new product development and the definition of consumer strategy leading to market share growth.  The position will be involved in private label, and fresh products, encompassing all Food categories.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Playing a significant role in the new team leading Meijer down the “Road to Remarkable;” adding innovative new products which will add to the excitement and give the consumer additional reasons to shop at Meijer because “only Meijer has the products I want”
  • Providing expertise on the consumer to the team, the entire food organization, and the supplier community, utilizing a skill set that includes market research and customer profiles
  • Working on broad areas in consumer goods:  Meijer Own Brands and fresh (unbranded)
  • Leading cross-functional teams, including concept, assortment, production, packaging and marketing

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4-6+ years in consumer product management experience, with steady progression to positions of more responsibility
  • The ideal candidate will have been a manager of Brand Management for a brand company
  • Must have a successful track record in bringing new products to market
  • Must be flexible, adaptable and able to move quickly and roll up their sleeves
  • Must be aware of current trends in the industry and passionate about food
  • Positive, high energy individual, who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan). Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project.
