Position Description

  • Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics
  • Demonstrates up-to-date expertise in assigned category and applies this to the development, improvement, and quality analysis of products
  • Develops and applies technologies and product lines related to product development or quality business objectives for a category (for example, dairy)
  • Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce
  • Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals
  • Oversees the planning and execution of development projects of existing or new products
  • Provides overall direction
  • Provides overall direction for the Private Brand Product Quality Development

Division Summary
Sam Walton opened the first Sam’s Club in 1983 to meet a growing need among customers who wanted to buy merchandise in bulk. Since then, Sam’s Club has grown rapidly, opening more than 600 clubs in the U.S. and 100 clubs internationally. By offering affordable, wholesale merchandise to members, Sam’s Club helps make saving simple for families and small business owners.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor s degree in Food Science or related field and 10 years experience in food product development or related experience OR 15 years experience in food product development or related experience.

Christopher Durham
Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan). Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s. Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago. Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
