Position Description
The Senior Manager of Product Development is a new role to Walmart.com and one that gives the associate a great opportunity to be part of a growing team that is forging a new path and process as to how we drive private label growth within the home division. This person should have a deep understanding of how to develop a product from concept to execution and what is required to manage and hit timelines within a product lifecycle. Ideally, this person would have experience in hardlines as well as soft lines and be very familiar with materials, construction and product development vernacular. This person needs to be very process and detail oriented. This person will be instrumental in developing strong processes, partnerships, and integration with our store counterparts to gain alignment and leverage resources. This person needs to be extremely collaborative with strong people skills and the ability to manage politics with grace. This role requires the associate to be able to travel often, approximately 1 week a month for the first 6 months and then frequent travel thereafter. We are looking for someone with a start-up and agile thinking mentality that approaches ambiguity and change with a positive attitude and tireless approach.

  • Determines macro and global trends relevant to advancing the Walmart.com business
  • Develops department trend and color presentations for key seasonal deliveries (for example, spring, summer, back to college)
  • Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects for Walmart.com Merchandising
  • Ensures business needs are being met
  • Initiates the placement of unbranded and branded products
  • Leads the development of Walmart private label and non-branded products in multiple categories and departments
  • Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity
  • Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Design, or related field and 2 years’ experience in design, merchandising, marketing, or related field OR 4 years’ experience in design, merchandising, marketing, or related field.

Travel
Travels internationally to and from multiple facilities or work-sites requiring extended overnight stays.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
1 year of supervisory experience.
1 year experience with Microsoft Office Suite (for example, Excel, PowerPoint).
3 years experience in manufacturing, product development, packaging, or design.
3 years experience with retail financial metrics (for example, profit and loss (P&L), cost components).
3 years experience with creative based design software (for example, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop).
3 years experience with cross-functional project management.
2 years experience with direct import processes.

Christopher Durham

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).

Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s.
Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago.

Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
