What You’ll Do
The Brand Manager plays an integral part in CTR (Canadian Tire Retail) business planning, brand development, and overall brand governance as products are brought to shelf. You will be responsible for developing and executing the annual Brand plans, including shared growth and financial targets designed to build equity and strengthen the brands’ financial contributions. You also will manage relevant exclusive licensed brands and external agencies as required. Other key responsibilities include:

  • Managing new brand implementation by integrating efforts across Merchandising, Product Quality, Marketing, Innovation and Product Development
  • Leading the development of brand management processes and capabilities, including competitive analysis, architecture mapping, planning, measurement / ROI, standards and governance
  • Mentoring and managing direct reports and project budgets
  • Monitoring legal (Intellectual Property) claims, disputes, and defining action plans with our legal team

What You’ll Need
You are detail oriented and process minded, but comfortable crafting strategy and operating in an ambiguous environment. You have strong business, financial, and analytical acumen with a demonstrated ability to operate effectively in complex organizations. Other qualifications include:

  • 7+ years Brand Management experience, ideally with Tier 1 packaged goods organization or Private Label experience within a Mass Retailer
  • Post-secondary education in business and or a related field

Christopher Durham

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).

Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s.
Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago.

Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
