Harvest at the Waitrose Farm

waitrose_13178535614794Gala apples along with comice and Concorde pears are harvested on the Waitrose Farm at the Leckford Estate, Hampshire. The pictures were taken by the Assistant Greenkeeper at the Waitrose Farm, Paul Hewitt. Many British farmers will be harvesting their apples and pears over the next few weeks. Waitrose sells more British grown apple varieties than any other supermarket

waitrose_1317810700934731The Waitrose Farm produces over 250 tonnes of private brand fruit from their orchards and is also home to a herd of 550 cows, over 1,500 acres of wheat, barley, oats and oilseed rape and the supermarket’s own vineyard, which produced its first grapes in 2011.

waitrose_131781425069713This past week, Waitrose launched its Harvest Festival campaign. The supermarket will celebrate the best of seasonal produce with recipes and savings, including 25% off British apples and pears. Waitrose will also showcase many of its 600 regional suppliers across all its branches and online.  Waitrose will also be showcasing some of the very best produce that is grown at their very own farm. The supermarket is encouraging shoppers to explore the beautiful landscapes and some of the amazing stories that lie behind their 4,000-acre estate by searching #WaitroseAtSource on Instagram and Twitter, or by visiting the Waitrose Facebook page. waitrose_131781070093473waitrose_13178895765842waitrose_1317889105007waitrose_13178535614794
