Currently, Meijer is looking for a Director of Product Development.  The individual selected for this position will be responsible for combining brand management for apparel categories with new product development. This individual will be involved in private label products, encompassing all Softlines categories.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Playing a significant role in overseeing quality assurance, design, and trends for Softlines categories. Manages PD Managers and assistants, trend team, quality assurance, and CAD artists.
  • Providing expertise on fashion, trends, and design the entire Softlines organization, and the supplier community, utilizing a skill set that includes market research and customer profiles.
  • Driving the Development Calendar, both in creation and compliance for the Calendar.
  • Engaging heavily with Li & Fung and our international vendors on product development and design.
  • Working closely with planning and sourcing teams.
  • Working on broad areas within Softlines including Women’s, Men’s, Kid’s, and Shoes/Accessories.
  • Leading cross-functional teams, including concept, assortment, production, design and marketing.
  • International travel twice a year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 4 – 6 plus years of apparel product development experience, with steady progression to positions of increasing responsibility
  • Experience with a fully integrated PLM system is preferred
  • The ideal candidate will have been a manager overseeing Product Development
  • Must have a successful track record in development and design of new apparel products
  • Must be flexible, adaptable and able to move quickly
  • Must be aware of current trends in the industry and passionate about fashion and apparel
  • Positive, high energy individual, who thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).

Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s.
Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago.

Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
