Purpose and role of job:
Lead and create First Quality’s Shopper Marketing programs and capabilities to accelerate share growth across store brands and First Quality brands. This newly created position will build Shopper Insight strategy and execute marketing plans that drive brand strategy through our retail partners and influence the consumer along the path to purchase and translates relevant data and insights into action at the retail level.

Principal Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:

  • Build and deliver strategic business planning frameworks, communication platforms, program concept development, effective sales presentations, retail sell-in support, and analysis of results for consumer purchase
  • Develop and lead consumer promotion practices across all categories at path to purchase
  • Provide insight to help establish objectives for customer specific learning plans
  • Oversee the hands-on integration and implementation of shopper marketing and digital solutions with industry leading retailers
  • Advance key shopper marketing capabilities – e.g., messaging, in-store media (being in touch with emerging marketing techniques and tools like online coupons, product placement, sampling)
  • Directly manage program execution, budgets, tracking, and post-promotional reporting
  • Committed leader who can balance multiple programs and direct resources appropriately
  • This individual must be skilled at establishing strong business relationships, balancing customer needs with internal requirements

Education and experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Preferred degree in Marketing and/or Public Relations.
  • 8 -10 years in the role of leader/manager in brand management, including experience in shopper marketing
  • A Strong Sales Leader with solid orientation and proficiency building Shopper Marketing based Platforms and retailer specific programs
  • Proven success in developing Sales & Marketing Programs, preferably in the CPG Space
  • Strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills
  • Comfort working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to create and execute high-level business plans
  • Must be a “Hunter” that brings expertise and creativity in developing and selling
  • Experience in working with a matrix organization with multiple stakeholder

Senior Market Research Analyst – First Quality

First Quality is a privately-held group of manufacturing companies who are leaders in their respective fields. The organization is run by hands-on owners with dynamic expansion plans to significantly increase the size of the business over the next few years.

We are currently seeking a Senior Market Research Analyst that will be located in King of Prussia, PA. This position will partner with business team(s) to proactively identify and conduct relevant market research and analytics to drive the business. Collects and analyzes POS, syndicated, panel, internal sales, and custom consumer data to evaluate existing and potential categories, products, services and competitors in appropriate markets.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Manage/execute qualitative and quantitative primary research projects to efficiently deliver consumer and shopper insights to drive the business.
  • Utilize IRI Liquid Data tool to analyze POS and Panel data relative to retail accounts and shoppers in order to understand business dynamics, track sales, analyze promotional activity, and make product mix and pricing recommendations.
  • Develop, analyze and distribute monthly POS reporting.
  • Synthesize data from multiple sources to develop relevant and actionable insights reports for sales and marketing.
  • Clearly communicate plans and recommendations orally, in writing, and via formal presentation.
  • Effectively prioritize assignments in line with business priorities.
  • Proactively partner with the marketing and sales team and represent market research function on key projects.
  • Support sharing and adoption of best practices and learning for the market research function.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10-15% of time.

Successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Marketing or Business Administration.
  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in market research or related field.
  • Specific experience working with Nielsen and/or IRI syndicated and panel data for or supporting a consumer packaged goods company.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong business analytics skills – ability to conduct a thorough business analysis, including drivers of performance using syndicated and panel data, and make recommendations to internal clients.
  • Experience managing and executing custom market research.

Senior Business Retail Analyst – First Quality

First Quality is a privately-held group of manufacturing companies who are leaders in their respective field. The organization is run by hands-on owners with dynamic expansion plans to significantly increase the size of the business over the next few years. We are looking for an experienced Senior Business Retail Analyst in the Northwest Arkansas area.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly forecasts and verify with team members as necessary. Maintain forecast spreadsheet by item and attend monthly demand calls for each category.
  • Maintain weekly sales and inventory reports utilizing Retail Link and provide to team members on a weekly basis. Help prepare for Walmart/Sam’s meetings through the construction of relevant reports detailing trends in the business that will help First Quality drive sales and increase distribution.
  • Review in-stocks daily.       Assist in maintaining Walmart/Sam’s forecast accuracy within their replenishment systems. Analyze Walmart forecast settings to identify forecast or in-stock opportunities and determine best method within GRS / CPFR to resolve issue(s). Write the necessary SSO and forecasting scripts with the ultimate goal of driving top line sales keeping in mind inventory turn.
  • Build and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Walmart/Sam’s replenishment teams in order to implement replenishment policies that will maximize sales and product availability at store level taking into account competitive intelligence and promotional activity. Identify items and store groups that require specific action to maintain expected in-stock levels. Determine inventory strategies to drive incremental sales, i.e. maximizing store of the community opportunities, new item and first of month features.
  • Understand inventory flow from First Quality warehouses to Walmart/Sam’s DC’s or direct to club and determine how to maximize inventory turn. Act as a conduit between Walmart/Sam’s and First Quality logistics teams to thoroughly understand the impact transportation has on maintaining inventory levels within stores/clubs. Work with the appropriate people with lead-time alteration recommendations driving inventory/transportation efficiencies.
  • Research correlations in sales trends with IRI data. Communicate these findings to Sales Ambassadors and provide power point detailing an analysis of the business.
  • Assist in maintaining data accuracy through item creation and maintenance in Data Sync. Maintain spreadsheet detailing item information for all categories and provide to the team quarterly. Keep track of item distribution for Walmart and Sam’s and publish to the team on a semiannual basis.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain relationships with buyer and other members on the Walmart and Sam’s Dotcom teams. Build short and long term strategies dedicated to growing and strengthening business. Manage online information to keep images and items up to date with the goal of improving each item’s website presentation. Support additional Dotcom requests and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Utilize data management software systems put in place by Walmart/Sam’s such as Retail Link, Aspect, Odin, and Data Sync to help the team meet customers’ expectations.

 

Cross Functional Responsibilities

  • Understand, communicate, and apply Walmart/Sam’s culture as well as Walmart/Sam’s internal systems and processes as necessary.
  • Support internal and external team members with regard to projects and information.       Assist with other categories sales & marketing strategies as necessary.
  • Work with internal team to manage item launches and exit strategies keeping in mind the necessary inventory flow to maximize each stage and also tracking remaining finished goods and packaging within First Quality’s possession.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

  • 5 to 7 years’ experience in CPG –related analysis specific to business with Walmart and Sam’s Club.
  • BS Degree in Business or related discipline
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Highly proficient in all Walmart and Sam’s Club proprietary systems (Retail Link, GRS, CPFR, etc.) including contracted system
  • Proprietary data base systems i.e. Homescan, IRI, etc.
  • Strong analytical skills – ability to link strategies and objectives to develop a plan and drive results
  • Good planning / organizing skills – ability to react to changing priorities and requirements
  • Team player with the ability to also work independently with little supervision
  • Logistics experience/expertise is a plus

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).
