Currently, Meijer is looking for an Own Brand Lead. This position is responsible to drive growth on the base own brand business as a) project managers for new & renovated items, and b) a steward of 1st label brand equity.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Drive consistent application and execution of Meijer 1st Label brand and product guardrails
  • Partner with Merchant Directors to prioritize, validate and deliver 1st Label & Meijer Fresh base business projects, including NBE/NBA, Line Extensions, and projects
  • Lead end-to-end process for prioritized own brand project
  • Lead Cross functional team meetings with QA/Reg, Packaging, Sourcing, and Merchandising
  • Coordinate project details with OB vendors for 1st Label line extensions and projects
  • Drive commercialization process using PLM system
  • Develop, communicate and manage project timelines
  • Monitor base business performancein order toprovide recommendations for:
    • Projects that ensure on-going alignment to National Brands
    • Line Extension Projects (NBE/NBA) that fill opportunity gaps
    • Promotions to drive base business performance
  • Partner with merchants/core teams to financially qualify new NBE/NBA opportunities
  • Coordinate with OB Vendors to understand capabilities

Qualifications

  • Business (or related) bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 4+ years of brand management, marketing, merchandising, own brand, product development, sourcing / supply chain, project management, or similar experience is required
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and time management skills
  • Self-starter, proactive, strong work ethic
  • Ability to blend creativity and analytics to address business challenges
  • Understanding of P&L terminology and fundamentals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Christopher Durham

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).

Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s.
Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago.

Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
