Position Summary:

Strategically lead Delhaize America brands including its portfolio and equity with a focus on growing the base business and working with the innovation team to take the portfolio to the next level. Is a member of the Supply Chain leadership team and Leader of Delhaize America.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the P&Ls of Delhaize America brands
  • Owns the growth on both top and bottom line in partnership with the banner and the category teams
  • Increasing sales, share and margin contribution for PB, accretive to the
    business
  • Develops a vision, long-term strategy, 3-year plan and innovation road map for Delhaize America brands in partnership with banner, category, innovation and product development teams
  • Develops and drives 3-year road map (category identification, idea filtering, etc.) and annual planning process
  • Sets the Goals and Objectives for department both short and long term with supporting budgets
  • Develops brand standards and brand strategy
  • Lead a team, which executes these plans – with focus on existing business and short-term vision. Serves as “the keeper of the brand”; supporting and maintaining brand equity of the existing brand and products and ensures that activities are consistent with portfolio of brand equity across the banners

  • Owns Brand strategy, positioning and design; ensuring that every product lives up to the overarching mission of Delhaize America
  • Identifies consumer research needs for products and “the core brand” with eye to improving the existing business and portfolio of products
  • Gives final “Go” on new products that are accretive to “the core brands”

  • Actively collaborates cross functionally to drive Our Brands key priorities
  • Working collaboratively with CM to identify and propagate the right items from concept to execution
  • Optimize Banner Marketing investment in Our Brands
  • Ensure articulation of brand’s desired image and position, assure consistent communication of image and position and assure communication of image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external
  • Monitor trends and link performance with brand health indicators (share, loyalty, conversion, repeat purchase and penetration across key categories)
  • Ensure supplier base is living up to our high quality consideration throughout the portfolio
  • Responsible for creating, implementing and measuring the success of a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that will enhance the brand’s performance, image and position within the marketplace and facilitate internal and external communications.
  • Influences banner marketing strategies and tactics to ensure brand uniformly across the banners

Basic Qualifications:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Marketing from a four-year college or university; Masters of Business Administration (MBA) Degree preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum Experience: 12 years of related marketing experience including: Experience in the packaged goods industry; Experience in launching multiple new products each year; Experience in managing media budgets and developing TV and Print campaigns; Retail/Merchandising experience highly desired

Christopher Durham

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).

Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s.
Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago.

Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
