Job Summary: Leads a functional area within the CSR for the testing of Own Brand product and package development

Essential Functions / Process Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned as necessary

  • Leads the PEC team responsible for the execution of consumer and sensory research projects
  • Develops and implements processes and standards to meet PEC team business needs
  • Identifies staffing and hiring needs for the PEC
  • Coaches Partners to meet performance expectations; identifies Partner training and development opportunities for PEC team members
  • Ensures that projects are delivered within budget, on schedule, and meet quality standards
  • Provides regular project status updates to leadership and the research analysis team on critical consumer and methodology issues
  • Identifies and reports on sensory trends and state of the art methods and techniques
  • Leads efforts to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of the team

Education and Experience preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sensory, Consumer Research, Sociology, Psychology, Food Science, Statistics or related field
  • 7+ yrs experience in a market or sensory research environment with 2 yrs of supervisory experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of sensory methods and techniques
  • Basic knowledge of consumer and product research
  • Advanced PC skills including use of PCs, Microsoft Office Suite software, Intranet and Email
  • Bilingual in Spanish a plus

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan). Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s. Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago. Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
