POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of National Brand Alternatives must drive strategic vision while focusing on delivering customer value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning

  • Work with Merchandising leadership to define brand fit and align current/new National Brand Alternatives
  • Provide global oversight on all National Brand Alternatives including any regional brands as needed
  • Collaborate with Merchant team and Image Brands team to create a financial plan by brand and by season by country
  • Determine high-level profitability targets and recommend or align to corresponding pricing hierarchy

Product Development

  • Partner with Product Development and Sourcing on direction and concepts for the season including any national brand product specs
  • Select styles to align with assortment vision from options presented by Product Development and Sourcing
  • Establish standards and policies for global brands including imagery, creative, packaging, and alignment across regions
  • Present Private Brands assortment, with Brand Managers, to merchandising for selection during Line Review process

Talent Management

  • Lead and manage team members by setting clear objectives, providing feedback, coaching, and enhancing skill development
  • Shape team roles and assignments, develop successors and talent pools, and continue to optimize processes
  • Directs and collaborates with European/Asian Brand Managers

Qualifications
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking and accomplishments in setting brand strategy
  • Experience in project management and prioritization; ability to strike a balance between long and short-term initiatives
  • Knowledge of consumer, stores, shopping behaviors and trends
  • Understanding of key retail metrics, financial analysis, profit and loss analysis, consumer and product trends
  • Proven leadership experience in a multinational environment
  • Ability to clearly define brand and customer
  • +10 years of experience in toy industry, private brands, or CPG

Christopher Durham

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).

Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s.
Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago.

Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
