Target & Wegmans to Present at 2014 Store Brands Decisions Summit

SBD Summit Speakers

This year’s Store Brands Decisions 2014 Innovation & Marketing Summit will feature two retailer presentations focusing on Private Brand packaging, innovation and sustainability.

On Wednesday, February 26, Kim Carswell, Senior Manager of Packaging for Target, and Anne Bedarf, Senior Manager for Green Blue’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC), will present a special workshop, “Building Your Sustainable Packaging Action Plan,” developed specifically for the store brands market. The seminar incorporates content from SPC’s Essentials of Sustainable Packaging curriculum. It offers a comprehensive introduction to sustainability considerations and strategies that apply to the entire store brands packaging life cycle: material sourcing, packaging design, manufacturing, transport and final disposal.

Carswell will highlight innovative strategies for goal setting, metrics tracking and communicating sustainability attributes that have been successful at Target.

On Thursday, February 27, Mike DeCory, Vice President Wegmans Brand, Wegmans; Steve Glenning, Director of Procurement, Wegmans and Daniel Johnson, Packaging Science Department Chair, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) will present “Driving Innovation & Sustainability in Store Brands Packaging.” The presentation includes examples and lessons learned during their collaborative efforts in packaging innovation and sustainability. Wegmans and RIT will discuss opportunities to improve store brands’ packaging structure and design, functionality and sustainability, hurdles preventing real progress in packaging innovation, and how a community wide effort to drive packaging innovation can benefit the entire industry.
