Position summary:
The Director Own Brand Channel Management is responsible for augmenting the selling support needed for Staples to succeed in driving the sales and margin of Own Brand products. This associate will lead a team of three Own Brand Champions who will be responsible for planning initiatives and driving sales across our three main channels, retail, Online and Contract. Additionally this associate will partner with the Category Management teams, and will be responsible for the development, implementation and support of selling initiatives; development and delivery of training tools and programs; creation and/or interpretation of reporting to identify business trends and opportunities aimed at increasing Staples brand product penetration across the Retail, Online and Contract customer base; and working with Staples divisions to support product category initiatives and new product launches. With guidance from the Staples Brands Group and the Retail Marketing and Merchandising teams, the Director Own Brand Channel Management will help develop and execute strategies, programs, and incentives for driving sales, margin and delivering a competitive differentiation for Staples.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver Own Brand training programs to support each of Staples primary channels
  • Work with Staples training and applicable Channel teams to develop and Own Brand training program


  • Work with the Staples Brands Group, Marketing and Merchandising – help develop and implement key promotional marketing programs to drive Own Brand sales across Channels
  • This may include production and creation of marketing vehicles/ collateral, as well as content development and program ideation


  • Serve as a single point of contact within Staples for key Own Brand questions
  • Partner effectively with Marketing, Merchandising, Sales, Training and other functional areas as needed to achieve corporate goals across Channels
  • Act as a key cross-channel liaison to ensure alignment on product and selling strategies


  • Work with the Staples Brands Group and the respective channel teams on managing large deals by providing operational and product knowledge/demonstration/ program support
  • Assess and evaluate budget needs to effectively support Own brand goals


  • Develop Access queries; Excel reports and other unique reports as required. Provide specified reports to all key internal teams, summarizing for key trends and business, product trial, conversion and penetration opportunities
  • Utilize appropriate resources to gather data


  • Bachelor Degree required
  • Minimum 10 + years of Own Brand Business Development experience
  • Minimum 4 + years of management experience
  • Ability to travel 50 – 60%


  • Strong knowledge of industry trends, product knowledge, customer buying patterns, training and marketing techniques
  • Strong influencing skills, verbal and written fluency
  • Ability to develop and deliver compelling training programs to sales force
  • Exhibits proactive communication and ability to assess the need for immediate action and act with urgency especially as it relates to supporting a large field sales organization

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of financial analysis and forecasting
  • Strong computer skills in developing and manipulating spreadsheets, databases and custom Staples reporting systems
