Tavara Named President of Sun Chemical Latin America

TavarraFernando Tavara has been named president of Sun Chemical Latin America. In this role, Tavara will be responsible for all of Sun Chemical’s Central and South American and Caribbean ink business.

Tavara brings 30 years of experience and knowledge to the position and most recently worked as the vice president of sales at Sun Chemical Latin America where he managed all sales and operations from Mexico throughout Northern Latin America, including the Andean Region, the Caribbean and Central America.

“Fernando has a clear understanding of the issues and challenges currently impacting Sun Chemical’s customers across Latin America,” said Rudi Lenz, President and CEO, Sun Chemical. “He is a tremendous leader and will be able to make a positive impact in the industry in Latin America. I am confident he will further strengthen our business and the partnerships with our customers.”

Prior to joining Sun Chemical in 2004, Tavara worked for Cia. Impresora Peruana S.A., one of the largest newspaper chains in Peru with printing facilities in four locations, where he held several positions, from production manager in 1983 to general manager in 1989. He also worked for 14 years in a leadership role at a competitive ink company in Latin America.

Tavara earned a bachelor’s degree from the Universidad de Lima in industrial engineering and master’s degree in business administration and financial management at the Escuela Nacional de Negocios (ESAN) in Lima, Peru.

Tavara replaces Gregory Lawson, who will retire at the end of 2013 after more than 10 years of distinguished service at Sun Chemical. Lawson has held a number of key positions at Sun Chemical including: President of North American Inks, Head of Purchasing and most recently as president of Sun Chemical Latin America. Lawson will remain on hand to help Tavara transition into his new role.

Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
