Walmart / Massmart Introduces Great Value to South Africa

South African retailer and recent Walmart acquisition Massmart announced this past week that it will be selling Walmart’s global Private Brand Great Value in its South African stores. Massmart CEO Grant Pattison tweeted that the first line to be sold – batteries – is “about half the price for the same performance.” The batteries will sold in the group’s stores, including the home improvement retailer Builders Warehouse. The introduction of the worlds largest Private Brand Great Value is expected to be the first brand of many brands in the Walmart Private Brand portfolio in South Africa, as Walmart will also introduce the George fashion brand will be sold in the region.
