This past week Bentonville based big box giant Walmart posted nine Private Brand jobs including Quality, Design and Project Management. This is the largest set of job postings in the three years since the redesign and relaunch of Great Value. I can only hope that this is a signal of a renewed commitment to Private Brands and that a refreshed and revitalized team will actively manage a robust portfolio of Private Brands, which addresses the needs of the Walmart customer.
- Invest in World Table and Marketside – customers love them and believe they are “real” brands
- Resolve the Sam’s Choice question – the only thing left is a couple of sku’s of premium coffee
- Create a true value/basic brand that speaks directly to consumer needs and takes credit for the numerous unbranded and control branded products
- Manage Great Value
- Create new brands that speak to consumer needs and lifestyles, brands that are bigger than categories or price tiers. Take a chance “she” does not care what your merchandising structure looks like.
