Former Google CIO Douglas Merrill To Keynote 2011 PLMA Trade Show

The Private Label Manufacturers Association (PLMA) announced today that Douglas Merrill, chief information officer and vice president of engineering for Google from 2003 until 2008, will deliver the opening address during the PLMA’s 2011 Private Label Trade Show, scheduled for November 13-15 in Rosemont, Illinois. Merrill will speak at the annual PLMA Salute to Excellence Breakfast on November 14.

Internet, mobile and social media are penetrating further and further into the spheres of retailing and commerce, PLMA said, putting ever more power in the hands of consumers. Merrill will bring “a uniquely well-informed and visionary perspective to how shoppers and shopping behaviors are changing, and what the coming retail marketplace will look like.”

Harry Balzer, chief industry analyst of The NPD Group, will be the featured speaker at a special PLMALive Breakfast to be held on Tuesday morning. The NPD Group has been tracking new and emerging trends for the food retailing industry in the United States. A webcast of the breakfast program and presentation will also be featured on PLMALive.
