SPAR Launches Private Brand Mobile

In the fourth year of its existence Austria’s SPAR’s S-Budget Private Brand expands into a new segment. S-Budget is the first retail own brand in Austria to implement a pay as you go mobile card, which offers extremely cheap tariffs, short messaging and surfing on the web.

The starter package is on sale for the introductory price of only EUR 9.90 which is valid for 1,000 minutes of air-time and 1,000 SMS messages for the first 30 days. The S-Budget mobile starter package was developed in cooperation with the Austrian mobile provider tele.ring and can be bought at SPAR, EUROSPAR and INTERSPAR stores beginning August 23.

With the S-Budget starter pack, consumers have full cost control, no registration and no contract. After the first 30 days, the pay as you go card included in the starter pack can be recharged for only EUR 8.80, being valid for another 1,000 minutes of air time and 1,000 SMS messages per month.

Internet surfing has been enabled on the S-Budget pay as you go card. If needed, consumers can purchase 1GB of communication for EUR 4 per month. A dedicated S-Budget Mobile Hotline (0820 650 611) gives advice about the pay as you go card at a charge of only 14 cents per minute. The unique SMS service offers subscribers information about cheap offers and promotions in SPAR stores.

“Three years ago we launched S-Budget to offer our dedicated customers quality food at extremely good prices. S-Budget has become a trendy brand and now introduces a highly affordable prepaid phone card for our customers,” said SPAR President Dr. Gerhard Drexel.

INTERSPAR Managing Director Markus Kaser added, “We want our consumer to have everything that they need for their daily lives. To make a phone call or surf the web are modern priorities. Lunching the S-Budget pay as you go card is a great innovation.”

SPAR interns in particular will benefit from the launch. 900 trainees, who start their traineeship at SPAR now, will receive the S-Budget starter package for free. To give an incentive also to the 2nd and 3rd year trainees, SPAR and tele.ring will give them all an S-Budget Mobile card.

Since its launch in 2008, S-Budget has been a best seller on the supermarket shelves. In the first six months of 2011, revenue growth of 21% has been achieved. S-Budget, the trendy brand, has more than 300 articles in its product range.

Already for 18 months consumers have been able to book their travels and get cheaper tickets for events and trendy parties on www.s-budget-party.at. The S-Budget Mobile card is the youngest star from the S-Budget umbrella brand.
