  • Manage vendor-based development of Target’s Owned Brands products, Archer Farms, Choxie, Sutton and Dodge, and Market Pantry
  • Create guest focused on-trend items, conducting organoleptic evaluations, product performance and quality attribute assessments, leading product team evaluations, providing feedback to the teams, documenting product evaluations, conclusions and next steps, and providing technical guidance to vendors
  • Develop/Create concepts and recipes that replicate items identified in conjunction with business strategy. Ensures products to be commercialized are consistent with Target brand strategies. Research food trends and industry information through publication, trend shows, restaurants, and vendor partnerships
  • Work directly with vendors to request product samples, inform them of specific Target requirements, obtain technical information, provide technical direction and guidance, and resolve issues
  • Conduct product sensory evaluations and product performance evaluations. Documents and summarizes all product sensory and performance evaluations as well as Private Label Development Team evaluations and decisions
  • Conduct first production run evaluations of all new products for compliance to specification and overall approval. Contributes to the development, review and approval of the product specification

Requirements

  • 4-year Degree in Food Science
  • One to three years in test kitchen or product development experience working with consumer packaged foods and/or foodservice industry
  • Experience in cross functional execution
  • Sensory evaluation experience and skills
  • Strong Prioritization / Organizational / Documentation skills. Microsoft Office Knowledge (Word and Excel)
  • Communicates Effectively, Builds Trust, Maximizes Relationships

Christopher Durham
Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan). Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s. Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago. Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
