Supervalu Hosts Private Brand Celebrity Grill-Off To Give More Than $100,000 To Charities

Minneapolis-based Supervalu and its family of grocery stores, including Acme, Albertsons, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s/Star Market and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy, will host a Family Day at the Stockman & Dakota Corral this Saturday, July 9 at 11 store locations across the country. The event invites customers of all ages to participate in cowboy-themed games with Western-style prizes for the winners, hourly drawings for store gift cards and a celebrity Grill-Off Showdown to benefit local charities. Visitors will have the opportunity to chow down on Private Brand Stockman & Dakota premium Angus steak and other favorite outdoor food.

“Nothing says ‘summer’ like a good cookout, and we wanted to invite all our friends and neighbors to a fun event featuring our Stockman & Dakota beef as well as cowboy-themed games and prizes,” said Chris Hooks, Supervalu’s Vice President, Meat, Seafood, Dairy, Frozen Foods.

The event, designed to promote Supervalu’s Private Brand premium Angus beef brand – Stockman & Dakota – will also feature samples from major national brands.

Celebrity Grill-Off Showdown
At the events, local celebrities will grill up Stockman & Dakota steaks using their own special recipes. Visitors will be able to sample and vote for their favorite celebrity-prepared steak. The winning grill-master, as determined by visitors’ votes, will receive a $5,000 donation to their charity of choice and bragging rights in the showdown. The second- and third-place celebrities will receive a $2,500 donation each to their charity of choice. In total, local charities in Supervalu markets will receive more than $100,000 in donations from Supervalu.

The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. local time on Saturday, July 9, 2011. The Celebrity Grill-Off Showdown will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with the winners being announced at approximately 1:00 p.m.
