Location: New York City
This position reports to the Design Manager or Design Director. Responsible for the design, development, selection and approval of materials, silhouettes, colors and patterns for area of responsibility.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepares line and presentation material for Line Previews and Buy Meetings.
  • Partners with Product Manager in set-up and presenting to Customers (Divisions) at Line Previews and Buy Meetings for area of responsibility.
  • Prepares design development materials for global vendor/manufacturing partners and provides timely feedback on samples.

Skills Summary:

  • Minimum 5 years design background in specified category.
  • Proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft Excel.
  • High level of taste, creativity and design expertise.
  • Strong color sense.
  • Strong print & pattern sense.
  • Knowledge and understanding of shape design.
  • Proven ability to build an assortment.
  • Team oriented with proven organizational skills, time management and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven self starter who can show a lot of initiative and work well independently.
  • Must be well spoken and comfortable presenting ideas and strategies to various levels of management.
  • This position will also require extensive travel overseas.

Christopher Durham
Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan). Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s. Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago. Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
