The Fresh Market currently has an opening for an Associate Merchandising Coordinator -Private Label in our Corporate Offices in Greensboro, North Carolina.  As the Associate Merchandising Coordinator -Private Label you will be responsible for a group of product development projects from start to finish, as well as the packaging review for compliance with the Federal Nutrition Labeling Education Act, state-specific licensing, USDA Organic, and other elements as required.

The principle responsibilities of the position will include:

  • Product and Vendor Sourcing
  • Sensory Analysis of samples to appropriate benchmarks.
  • Quality Assurance and Label Compliance.
  • Package/Label Development Management

The position prefers:

  • Background in food retail, with experience in private label product development
  • Background in food science with emphasis on sensory analysis and food sanitation
  • Background in nutrition with an awareness of food labeling requirements
  • Category and Brand management understanding is a plus.

The Associate Merchandising Coordinator – Private Label should possess a Baccalaureate Degree, (B.S. preferred).  The Associate Merchandising Coordinator – Private Label should also posses strong verbal communication skills and a comfort with cold-calling; professional phone etiquette; sense of urgency/persistence and persuasiveness, and business math proficiency.  Demonstrated excellent time management skills, good critical thinking ability as well as the ability to work independently and in collaboration with peers are additional requirements of the position. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail and the ability to systematically execute a project from start to finish.

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan). Durham has published five definitive books on private brands, including his first book, Fifty2: The My Private Brand Project. In 2017, he will debut his newest book, Vanguard: Vintage Originals, a visual tour of innovation and disruption in private brand going back to the mid-1800’s. Dynamic in his presentation while down to earth and frank in his opinions, he has presented at numerous conferences, including FUSE, The Dieline Conference, Packaging that Sells, Omnishopper and PLMA’a annual trade show in Chicago. Durham lives in Charlotte, NC with his wife, Laraine, and two daughters, Olivia and Sarah.
