Bankruptcy, Private Brand & Great Coffee – A&P

This week brought the long anticipated bankruptcy announcement the icon of American grocery, A&P and as expected the speculation about its outcome and the vultures circling the body are everywhere. I thought it would be nice to take a look back at some of the vintage Private Brand packaging from A&P, like it, love it, or hate it the retailer and its Private Brands have extensively influenced modern retailing and branding.

and of course how could we forget 8 O’clock Coffee the granddaddy of then all.

Christopher Durham is the president of My Private Brand and the co-founder of The Vertex Awards. He is a strategist, author, consultant and retailer who built brands at Delhaize-owned Food Lion, and lead strategy and brand development for Lowe’s Home Improvement. He has consulted with retailers around the world on their private brand portfolios including: Family Dollar, Petco, Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Metro (Canada), TLW (Taiwan) and Hola (Taiwan).
