I had the opportunity to spend a long weekend in New York City with my wife a few weeks ago and stumbled across this fascinating little chain of grocery stores in what was one of my favorite Balducci’s locations. The store was a fascinating mix of New York and gourmet jammed into a tiny store no larger than a suburban convenience store. Gourmet Garage currently has six stores throughout the city and features a number of Private Brand Gourmet Garage items primarily focused on fresh and heat and eat. This is a uniquely different shopping experience than the classic suburban grocery, but it had a charm unique to New York City.
The package design is spartan at best and does little to build the otherwise hip Gourmet Garage brand, but by and large the products appear to be nice and to support a quality gourmet image.
